Now listen very carefully. A good martial artist does not become tense but ready. Essentially, at this point, the fight is over. So you pretty much flow with the goal. Who is worthy to be trusted with the secret to limitless power? I'm ready. Accepting limitations in BJJ. Are you just too old and therefore you've just got to accept that? Or are you buying into a limited mindset and you're just buying snake oil because the person you're listening to is telling you you need to limit yourself because that is as far as they go. Ooh, snake oil.
SPEAKER_01:Ooh. Someone got the fucking someone caused JT to have a look.
SPEAKER_00:I got I got fucking pissed off, Joe. You got a bone to pick. Mate, a Chris bones to pick, actually. Mate, look, I think this is really important to understand that, you know, we've talked about getting older in jujitsu. And we all accept taking a certain amount of physical damage is part of jujitsu. But obviously what we advocate for is, you know, looking after your rig and maintaining longevity and doing the right thing by yourself. And we know the injury is part of the game and it's undeniable, but what you do about it, that's really what determines longevity. Same thing we were saying, you know, people in life, you meet people who haven't looked after themselves and you meet them, you think, fuck, they look like they're 50. You find out they're 30 years old.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:They've just aged themselves through their approach to life. This is true of jujitsu. You meet people who are really good with the longevity and nutrition, you're like, wow, they they've got really good energy and they go really well. So this is what happened, folks. I saw a post, and I believe it was actually a paid advert advice advertisement for Christmas advertisement, thank you. Sent sent uh old cunt. Well, it's not even that, it's just my brain's not working. No, so I saw this advertisement and it was Chris Burns, aka Chris Bones, who I I've known for many years, right? He's uh he's American? He's American, but he lived in Australia for a long time and he moved back there. We trained together at Peter Debian back in the day. Right on, right? So I've known him since I was a white belt and get on well with him. I don't agree with all the stuff he talks about in jiu-jitsu, but he has a very different approach to jujitsu. This is what I'm not happy about, folks. This is what I cannot accept, or the thing I feel is misleading, and that's why you shouldn't buy into the fucking bullshit. His statement was you're you're over 40. You do jujitsu, your body's fucked up, and all these young athletic guys are beating you up. So you need to do old man jujitsu. And I've got the efficient technique way where you don't have to use strength, you don't have to use power, so that you can actually do jujitsu in a sustainable way and just accept your body's fucked, and now you just do jujitsu differently and don't fix your problems, just buy my DVD, subscribe to my course, don't get stronger, don't get more athletic, because I don't know how to do that. Just accept limitation and do jujitsu like me, like a fucking limited cunt. That's what it was, and I was like, get the fuck out of here, bro. Like I'm not gonna ask Chris Bones' advice on how to get strong and fit because he's not. But what he's doing here is he's using this principle of efficiency through his training under Hickson and traditional like jujitsu approach to say that oh you don't don't fix your shit. You're old, you're fucked now. So you need to do jujitsu differently. Now, admittedly, if you have injuries, you've got to work around them. I understand that. And we we just talked about, you know, like you're not necessarily gonna try and be Andrew Tackett when you're 50 years old. Fair enough. But to negate this idea, like to totally throw out that you could improve physically or you could get more flexible or you could look after your body, and that's the reason why you got to pay this guy money to learn jujitsu is fucking bullshit. It is as bullshit as anaconda knee braces, my friends. Just because you pay the money and you put it on doesn't mean it's fucking good for you. It means you're avoiding the fucking problem, right? Just looking at something and be like, I got a sore knee, I guess I better ignore it. No, this is not the answer. And this is why you need to not buy into the bullshit. There is so many nonsense things out there in jujitsu. This one I feel is particularly insidious because it's a mindset. It's telling you to like limit your expectations of yourself. It's a fucking psyop. It's a psyop. That's exactly right, Joe. You are getting psyoped by Chris Bones, and I got a problem with it, man. I mean, yeah, the god. So he says explicitly, like, accept your limitations. No, he says you're older, so now you do different jujitsu because your body's fucked. He doesn't say anything about fixing your body because he doesn't know how. Like, he's like, no, you just need to pay me specific money to learn limited jujitsu. No, I think you get along with that you by your damn self. You don't need to listen to Chris Bones. But I mean, like, it's like many things, right? Like, it's like those um, you may have seen the the elastic bands, the kind of stretch bands that the wrestlers use. You see it? Like, um, I I I always report them for fraud as soon as I get an ad for those. I'm always like those ones, yeah. They and they they'll do these, like judo judo folks use them. Uh Elena Craver, or sorry, Helena Craver did a thing where she was doing guard stuff with it, doing forward rolls and being like, this is my ideal prep. Yeah. Like, no, that's bullshit. Like, yes, someone might be really great at wrestling, and so you see them doing that. That's not what made them great. You know, it's this um correlation causation thing. It's just like, no, you're paying a bunch of money for a product you will not use properly, which will not make you better. And I it just absolutely grinds my fucking gears, Joe, because we're only in jujitsu for a short time, and really, if something is misleading and they take your money, that's bullshit. And I gotta take a stand.
SPEAKER_01:I gotta stand on business. You gotta stand on business. Well, to play devil's advocate here. Please, Joe. Could you know, you said it yourself just now, we're only in it for a short amount of time. Could, you know, is what Chris putting forward something that could extend that lifespan for someone? There are a bunch of choices out there for your strength and mobility training. And when it comes to choosing a program, it's really hard to sift through what's good and what's not. One thing I can guarantee you is that the bulletproof for BJJ app is exactly what you need as a busy grappler who wants to prioritize time on the mats, which means you're not spending hours upon hours in the gym each week, but you also want the biggest returns in terms of your performance on the mats and also your recovery off. Like well, if he's saying, like, hey, you got limitations, you got to play jujitsu differently, and here's how I'm gonna teach you how. Is there something in that that is life prolonging for people in the game? Like while while it's potentially, yes, while it could be discounting.
SPEAKER_00:You could you could say yes, but I think we're all it's it's patently aware, we're all patently aware that if you if your knees don't bend properly or your shoulder doesn't move right, you have to change the way you do jujitsu. Chris Bones doesn't have a secret. Now, yeah, he he he he teaches jujitsu a certain way and he says it's more efficient, A, B, and C, and yeah, fine. I mean, if you want to spend that money and find out, that's okay. But what he's making an argument for is not addressing your problems. Right. It's not addressing the physical limitation, not fighting the aging process, not doing good, healthy things for yourself. Just pay me money to learn how to do limited jujitsu. That's fucking ridiculous. That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. That's why I'm mad. I was actually calm, Joe. Oh, wow. I've been on a real nice calm tip lately.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it's been a pretty good day in the terms of the city.
SPEAKER_00:I've been out in California, I've been I've been dropping fucking honey stick lsd with the top-level San Franciscan rich people. Oh wow. I've been taking my my ecstasy uh edibles with my mixed with psilocybin. I've been oh wow, I've been meditating on a on a mountaintop. Trumpian US really sounds like a fun place to be. Bro, it's I tell you, I've I had a mental utopia. I was chilling until I looked at Instagram. He's like, I actually slept for the first time. Mate, and then I looked at Instagram, I was like, what? Okay. I just turned into little John, but like angry. And here's the thing because a lot of what uh gets put out there, when you see someone who's an expert, you you go, oh well, what they're saying must be true because they were right about something else.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:And I don't, I don't think we're necessarily right about everything. We might just be a couple of things we're we're correct on. But the the challenge with this is we like to just see someone as a uh a bastion of truth, and I trust that person so everything they say is true. And I I don't think that's the case. And especially if someone is talking misinformation, whether it's fucking knee braces or it's neo bands or whatever the bullshit is, or it's limiting your jujitsu. At the end of the day, the really important thing is to identify this person is incentivized or is trying to encourage me to do something because it makes that person money. Is that good for me? And and you've got to see if that's good or not. And what I'm saying here is just limiting your jiu-jitsu because you've got physical problems is not the way. So, speaking to your point about the longevity piece, the only way that we have longevity in life, separate of jujitsu, we've got to lift weights, we gotta, we gotta eat well, we've got to get our sleep, we've got to do a number of things to look after our bodies. And they're showing there's more and more research to indicate that you can get fitter and stronger no matter what age you are, and this is what keeps you young. Jiu-jitsu does not keep you young, unfortunately. It keeps you good for your good for your spirit, but not necessarily good for the body. Yeah, and I think this is the thing we've got to get to that, yeah, we do want to stay in the game and we we love jujitsu because it it means so much to us, but the cost is that we need to look after our bodies and and trying to like spend money somewhere else, it it's kind of you know, this is this is an illusion of sorts. And uh give giving giving people permission to not look after themselves like that's the right thing to do, is uh you can't stand by that. It's a charlatan's game, it's uh it's pure fuckery, and I'm calling it out. So, yeah, if you know Chris Bones, please share this with him because I got a bone to pick. Believe that.
