Health As The Real Advantage

SPEAKER_01

Supplements and health strategies that are gonna ensure BJJ performance. Now, lots of folks out there are getting into all kinds of things. They're getting into drugs. When I say drugs, I mean mainly testosterone and other PEDs, you know, people are doing peptides, people are doing whatever they can to improve their performance, but not necessarily considering there are a few things, strategies, behaviors, and supplements which are natural, healthy, and it will improve your health, which basically is the foundation for your BJJ. Now that doesn't sound so sexy, Joe, but I think this is a really underestimated. Yeah, 20-year-old Joey didn't give a fuck about health. Of course not, right? He was healthy. But I do actually have faith. Well, I mean, sure, I was, I was in shape. Yes, you know, and and I guess, but but there's things as you get a bit older that you're like, oh, actually, health and longevity starts to overtake, you know, this performance and thing, right? But I think it still works, it's still at play with younger folks because they are doing way more. They're better educated too. That's true. I I think, yeah, I think that you know, it's like we was talking about when you go to the gym and you see, you know, you see young people lift better. They are generally more proactive across all fronts of health than we are, or than we were. Not drinking, yeah, doing a lot of the better behaviors, like looking at the older gen, looking at our generation, be like, you guys are a fucking mess. Yeah. I don't want

Bone Broth For Gut Resilience

SPEAKER_01

to be like that. Um, but no, it's funny because I had this discussion with somebody, it it came from the antibiotics chat. And we've talked a little bit about this before, and I wanted to talk about something I do, which I recommend everybody do. Uh, one of the athletes I work with would always get sick after big comps or dieting. You know, it's the classic thing. Uh, many folks cutting weight, um, they're they're restricting their calories, they're dehydrating themselves to get their weight down for a competition. Yeah, their immunity goes down, and maybe they get a staph infection. Or their their health is uh reduced, they do the comp, they get all the stress of the comp and then they get sick. Yeah, or they get food poisoning, they're in a different country, all these, all these elements. So even though they're trying to get this huge athletic uh component, this achievement done, and they do their best, their health kind of fucks out. And the the thing that I had promoted and talked about with this particular athlete was talking about gut health relevant to uh broths. And for me, having like a chicken broth or uh a beef broth just in the morning, 50 mils, is amazing. Like my day is so much better, I'm so much calmer. I just I feel better at every step of the way. I'm less fatigued, everything. And it's just because I do that before I do anything else. And the reason why I say it's so profound is I stopped doing it. I stopped doing it not because we basically ran out and and we hadn't when I say we, I mean my life. Someone need to speak to Ola. Ola, hey, excuse me, mom. Um, but it was just like a shopping thing, right? Because you've got to get the chicken, you've got to get the chicken's feet, you gotta get all the veggies, all the bits and peavers. Yeah. And it anyway, long story short, I did get a bit of a cough thing and a bit of a throat thing.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, what is this feeling?

SPEAKER_01

I got the black blood. Oh my god. I was like, wow, I think I'm sick. I haven't felt this way for uh two years. What the fuck? Like it's rare that I get sick. And the major factor was I was not having my daily broth, even though I was keeping up a lot of the other elements. And so when I was speaking with this athlete about improving his performance in BJJ, because it's hard to have good performance when you're sick. Uh, we talked about bringing up the amiga levels. So uh for him, it's crill oil, he prefers that. But I was saying, you know, get some fish in your diet. Very good. Uh no, no, it's just personal preference thing. Yeah, it's easier to just take a few crill pills as opposed to cooking up fish, especially if you're traveling overseas.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

And um, and yeah, and the broth thing makes a huge difference. And he hasn't been getting sick now since we started this thing. Just from adding that. Yeah. Wow. It's huge. So for me, the first thing I would recommend to anyone, because it's pretty easy to do. It's better if you make it yourself, but there's lots of options for for broth, whether you get it at the supermarket, health food store, you just basically get a concentrated pouch of it, put it in, a bit of hot water, glug, and it's uh it's good times. The old pump and dump. Yeah, yeah. I'm I'm I'm I'm all up on the broth. I used to do it as a as like in that way, like a cup of it. I actually used to mix it with um some measo paste. Oh, nice. And it's like a delicious, like a fucking delicious, put some sliced uh spring onions on top. Ooh, tasty. In a mug, you know. But um mostly these days, I just cook we cook our meals with it. Beautiful. So if we're stewing meat or if we're making, you know, some kind of slow cooked thing, or um that's pretty much, or you know, say you're making like a beef chili or something, yeah, and you need stock, it's like I go to the freezer, get whatever broth we got.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

And so I'm usually just fucking turning over whatever bones we have to keep some supply of that. And we do run out, you know, yeah, from time to time. We also the the the cheat ways fur. We'll do a like a Vietnamese uh noodle soup. Yeah. I usually go beef, I'll or go chicken. It's the easiest way to do it, you know? Yeah. It's like whatever, 15 bucks a pop, it's cheap. The nutrition is through the roof. And I think the huge value in it is uh, you know, obviously the cooking of the bones, there's a huge mineral component. Yeah. Because we tend to not eat marrow, you know, unless you're like on that carnivore kind of paleo tip. It's very rare that people are actually getting those nutrients from a creature. We just eat the meat, we don't eat the organs, we don't eat the skin, don't eat connective tissue, yeah, just the muscles. Yeah. And I mean, don't get me wrong, however you view that, you know, if you if you're not down with that, that's fine. But there's such nutritional value in the marrow. And um in the marrow, and in just the bone. The bone itself, right? Yeah, yeah. Like, I mean, I think that's the yeah, I think that's the interesting thing to observe in our Western diet is that we do just eat mussels. And you, you know, you look at most kids are a good example of that where they're like, I just want, like, I don't want any of the gristle or the bone. I don't want crust. Yeah, I just want chicken breast. Yeah. Or I just want like lean steak. My my son is like my my daughter, though, she has that thing, right? Yeah. And I remember my sister being like that too. And probably myself, right? Because we grew up in this kind of, I don't know, it's like this, like we never ate, we never used bones for shit. We never ate like cartilage or right. Whereas part of the culture. No, whereas you look at more traditional food cultures and it's all included, right? It's in French cuisine, it's in Vietnamese, it's in fucking Chinese, like all of these older cultures, you know, they have this thing of eating the whole animal and and and fucking wildly, they have largely healthier diets than us. Sure. You know? Um, yeah, I I mean it's I think some of that stuff like offal and stuff, and even marrow, right? To eat straight marrow is like for people, it's like I can be pretty hardcore. But I I don't I haven't met anyone that can't find a like a bone broth delicious, yeah. Especially when you add a bit of flavour to it and or you cook with it. Yeah, and even just a vegetable soup. If you're someone who's vegetarian and you're like, I can't fuck with that, it's like that's cool. Getting um some good good um fats in, whether it be olive oil, avocado oil, whatever, and slow cooking vegetables, that also brings out all the minerals, you know, the classic thing if I think about pales in comparison, but yes. No, no, no. But I'm saying, but like that's right, yeah, bear with me, right? Like, so ROP, much love to my grandmother. Her generation was to just cook the nutrition out of a vegetable, like boil those Brussels sprouts till they're grey, you know, and then tip the green soupy goodness down the sink and eat the flavorless whatever it is, right? Maybe put some white sauce on it. Maybe. But you you think like, but when you make a soupy, whether you put it in a slow cooker, a pressure cook or whatever, you've kind of pre-digested this food. So that actually can help you in a lot of ways if if you're feeling unwell, like eating, you know, m most cultures around the world have the thing of having chicken, chicken soup or or a variation of that. Yeah. Is there something you do, Joe, which um you consider which is just for your health?

Electrolytes First Thing In Morning

SPEAKER_01

You're not thinking about BJJ, you're not thinking, how does this improve my performance? You just know it's a healthy thing you do. Yeah. Whether it's related to diet or yeah, definitely, definitely electrolytes first thing in the morning. Yeah. Right? And uh, and whether that is sodi, which we talk about a lot, or it's just the lemon and salt in water. Yep. Like that is a deliberate, like I don't ever feel like doing that. I don't, I'm not like, oh, I fucking let's pump this sort of salt. Oh, you're not you're not looking forward to it. I'm like, ah, fucking squeeze the lemon. Some of those are meant to be. Fucking these lemons are so hard at the moment, you know, fucking salt, spill salt everywhere. You know, it's like, and you do and and I've usually I usually first have a glass of water, and then that's my second glass. Uh so I'm like, I don't even want this liquid in my gut. It's just like, but it's good for me. Yeah, you know, so that that's one of them. I don't know, ponder others.

Potassium For Cramps And Energy

SPEAKER_01

No, it's okay. I mean, for me, the thing that I have been doing, which is is very helpful because I I read an article about potassium, and potassium is really underrated, even though most people, depending on where you are in the world, they probably have a version of a banana, you know. That's a very easy way to do it. Coconut water is super high in um in potassium. Is it actually? Yeah, because I I've always been unsure about cooker's potential. Then you've got to you've got to check though. Yeah. Some some some of the cheaper coconut waters do not have the potassium level in it. Yeah. But most for like 250 mils, it's probably got about 400 milligrams of potassium. Okay, it's pretty good. Yeah. So if you have a liter, you're sorted. Potassium duck. Yeah. And and really, because sodium and potassium, that's what makes your muscles work. Like sodium draws the water out of the cell, potassium is what draws the water into the cell. So you've got these sodium and potassium pumps. And so generally, like, you know how people are like, oh, if you get a cramp, oh, I'm dehydrated, oh, you need salt. No, actually, it's it's a lack of potassium. Right. You know the classic line is like monkey never crumps. Yeah, crump. Two bananas. Two bananas, monkey never crumps. The baseball line. Baseball blind. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's so famous. Um, Inuai, I think. Anyway, he's great, right? He he's a legend. Apparently, his English is actually very good. But he just does this act. But uh, it's a very famous clip. And and I was reading an article about a specific strength conditioning coach who made all his athletes ultra dose on potassium, and they got like all these benefits. Now it's anecdotal, right? Because one guy, but it was his very specific request that they had to do two to three thousand milligram, like grams of potassium a day. Oh, wow. Like ultra dose. Yeah. And performance went up, reaction time went up, recovery improved, everything. Wow. So even though I used to think coconut water was like a bit wanky. Yeah. I said, what you know, like what's the point there? When I have a liter of coconut water, it is a much better day overall. In terms of just my energy is more stable. And you know me, Joe, I'm an up and down energy kind of guy. That's right. You've seen me kind of sail the heights and also crash and burn in a given day. So uh that's the thing for me in terms of trying to make my energy last, whether it's lifting or uh working or um doing jujitsu, increasing my potassium intake. Have you seen the product Heart Salt? I have not. It's being sold in now around Australia. It's Norman, you know, Norman Swan, the ABC Health guy. I think it's his creation or something he's behind. And it's a it's a it's a salt. It is it is a salt, but it's a salt for people who have um heart like um poor heart health. So it's like if you, you know, if if your doctor's telling you like you need to lower your salt intake, this is a good salt for you for you to use, but it's high in potassium. So it's got, I think it's got, I think it's basically like minimal sodium and it's more potassium, so it still has a saltiness. Interesting. Yeah, and and I I I do I can't speak to it, but I believe there is some science that he follows, which is that um if you have like poor heart health, you don't want to be eating a lot of sodium. But I wonder, perhaps it's my mum and my mum and daddy, because my dad's my dad's a little bit on the thing there. Right. Um like he's in good shape, but doctors like, hey, you don't want to eat too much salt. Well, there's a there's a whole bunch of science out there that says that's bunk. You know, there's a whole bunch of people out there who are like, no, you need way more salt. Yeah, but I think, and I think what that is though for healthy folks, salt is great. But I think I think there from what I can tell, the sources I've looked at, there is some truth to if you have contra in like if you have bad heart health, sure, you don't want to go super hard on it. I I have no good good information around that either way, but it's interesting that you mention it. Um I also remember a friend telling me that potassium was good for when you've had a big night on the Persian rugs. Oh, yes, and you're feeling a little bit depressed in the days following, that it helps bring you out of the slump. Well, uh speaking to that, um the the other thing that the supplement that I recommend for everybody which is underrated um is vitamin D for sense of

Vitamin D For Mood And Training

SPEAKER_01

well-being. Now, for folks out there, whether you're parting, whether you've you've been on on the Persian rug, so to speak, you're out you're out there flying. Um, or um you're just life's just a bit much and overwhelming. Often folks have low vitamin D. And even in in our country, where we have like so much sun, yeah, the highest rate of skin cancer, but also like chronically low vitamin D. D, which is crazy. So uh it's cheap as hell. You know, you can get a little a little thing of it for like 10 bucks. The shit work though? Yeah, man. Vitamin D, it's also correlated with the strongest people in the world have the highest levels of vitamin D. Yeah, right. So mostly um Scandinavian folks, right? No, Cubans. Oh, really? Yeah, the the strongest women or like population, uh, general population, the women with the greatest grip strength are Cubans. Yeah, fucking communist either. Well, no course. No, but they got they work working people. Pater muerte. And they I think um it's also like uh it's a sunic sun exposure for them, right? They're not like taking vitamin D's up now. They live on the equator. They're they're they're in the sun all day every day. So it was just very interesting. Um we would die if we lived on the equator, just to be clear. Of course, this is all in the southern hemisphere equator. We would be fucked. I would just be looking like Joey's shirt. Actually, I'm probably looking more like my own shirt. But um, for me, that the vitamin D, the well-being piece, like you're saying, like, um, because when you feel like whether you've had a big weekend or you've had a tough week at work, you know that moment where you're like, should I go to training? You know, you're like, you could go, but you're like, oh, I don't know, I'm a bit tired or my body's a bit shit, or you know, like you you have this little internal debate. Yeah. And there can be a lot of reasons as what will prompt you to go or not go. And I'm not saying either decision is right or wrong, but let's just say you're feeling a bit better than you are feeling not good, you're more likely to go. You know, if yeah like if you're 51% towards outstanding versus feeling terrible, but you're feeling just a bit good, I believe you will be more inclined to train. I like that. Right. Vitamin D now, and you too can feel a bit good. You can feel 3% better than shit. But it's done. I think that's the well-being piece is huge. And this is what I want to try to get to with this chat is that we do a lot of shit around performance, but we don't look after our health. Yeah. And health is your health is your foundation for performance. If you have like a very narrow base of support, you can't, you can only build so high before you fall over. Yeah. So I really want to try and get to people and say, hey man, you look after your health. You're gonna train more, you're gonna train better.

Sponsor Break And Discount Codes

SPEAKER_01

I haven't been excited about wearing a gi for some time. However, recently partnering with our chemical fight wear, and I can tell you their gis feel great. The beauty of wearing a hemp gi is that they are strong, they're gonna last the test of time, they're high quality, but they're light. And I would go to say that you couldn't get that kind of lightness in a cotton ghee. And so the beauty of that is, especially here in Australia where it's really hot during the summer, having a lightweight ghee that's strong is an absolute godsend. I'm a big fan of our chemical, and also the beautiful part of it is that it's a very environmental-friendly fabric to be using rather than cotton, which is energy intensive. So if you want to get your hands on some our chemical flightwear gear, you should go check it out at alchemical.com.au. And if you use the code Bulletproof15, you'll get 15% off your purchase. This episode is brought to you by the makers of the greatest electrolyte in the game, SODI. We've been partnered with these guys for some time. And the reason that we love Sody is that they have a potent electrolyte product, which is exactly what you need for a sport like jujitsu where you sweat a bunch. When you sweat on the mats, you lose electrolytes. And this is why supplementing with them is an absolute game changer for recovery and performance. And check it out, you can actually go for the single serving packs, which are great. I pump one of these after every training session, or you can get the tub. And the beauty of the tub is that less plastics, but also you can moderate how much you have. So if you just want to have a smaller dose, like you're having it in the morning first thing when you wake up, you can go for a half dose. Or if you want to have a little top-up at night or something like that, you can choose how much per scoop. You can get 15% off Sody now when you go to their website, SODI, that's sodoui.com.au, and you use the code Bulletproof15 to get 15% off. Go there now and enhance your performance and recovery.

Sun Walks Hydration And Fiber

SPEAKER_01

You know, on that vitamin D piece, and especially timely because um here in Australia we've we've just come, we've come into autumn. Yes. And so the days are now like daylight savings. Days are shorter, the weather's cooler, it's still really warm through the middle of the day, right? So, um, but this is when I notice that sun exposure becomes more important. Yes. In summer, you don't need to think about it, but now and then sort of all through the middle of the year, it's like you have to make an I have to make an effort to get out in the sun throughout the day. And I have a couple of tips for that. Get your rig out, so if you can't get your shirt off, right? And the more skin you can expose, the better. Um, but also take your sunglasses off. Yes. And I do find that if I make if I have a day where I don't get sun exposure, like let's say I go to the gym and start working, and then I'm in the gym all day. And then when you leave it star, yeah, I feel the depression of that, like from the lack of sun exposure that day. But if I take 15 minutes, go for a walk, I'm like, no, it it makes a significant impact. It's huge. And then that shit compounds, right? If yeah, and I mean I feel for the fucking friends of ours in northern Europe and shit, right? Yeah, people people living in London and stuff who are like, man, the depths of winter here, you just there's no sun to be seen. And that's that's why English people love Australia. That's right. They come out here and they're like, I feel so good. It must be this country. They're like, oh no, you just you're chilling, man, you're getting some sunshine. It's come out to the colonies, you're gonna love it. Yeah, oh man, it's it just I was saying uh just on the on the well-being piece. Uh when when we went to Ola and I went to New Year's Day music festival, and there's all these English backpackers there, and they're like, I love this country, this is the best.

SPEAKER_00

I'm Gary, I'm from London. You got you got any cat?

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, mate.

SPEAKER_00

That's all right. I'm on move here, I love it. Nice one, bruv.

SPEAKER_01

So, but I mean that's the thing that um the you're talking about walking in the sun. This is this is the other thing. Like, I was it's not just supplements, it's behaviors, and this is you know, I've talked about this a lot, but I think this is something I said it to someone the other day, and they were like, What? They were shocked. I think running is overrated, and I think that walking is underrated. I'm not saying don't run. If you're inclined to run, run. That's fine. Good luck to you. But most people do not walk. Yeah, and it is it there's absolutely no downside. Like you it just takes a long fucking time. No, no, it does take time, but the the return, I'm just even if you just go 20 minutes. You influence me to walk more than I blood blood pressure goes down, cortisol goes down, yeah, it frees up space. Like you could raw dog it. Don't take a podcast, don't take music, just observe, see a plant, see a you know, someone walking a dog. Hey, what's up? Yeah, pat a cat, fucking help an old lady across the street, whatever. You know, like just be a human in the world, it brings you out of your head, it brings you off your phone, and the health markers go up. Yeah, you know, so uh the the sun exposure piece, I mean, that's legit. I mean, sure. Yeah, put it in the street. That walk in the mill, you know, take it on your lunch break. Yeah, eat your lunch while you're meant to be working, and then go for a walk on your lunch break in the summer. Perfect. Um, you know, another thing I find actually this time of year, it's kind of winter specific, but it's really easy to not drink enough water. Yeah. Because it's cold, you don't get the thirst. You know, as I find yeah, in summer, you're like, oh, it's hot. Like you punch. Pump water in in cooler months, it's like fuck, I don't think I've really drunk much water today. So I find that that's something I often have to be more disciplined about. Yep. Is at least pumping water at like, you know, morning sort of midday and then afternoon. Um I tell you one thing that's been that I've been enjoying lately. Please, uh, and I fucking feel so boring to say this, but I've been eating muesli every morning. Oh yeah, with like fruit and yogurt and shit. Look out. Uh and I was healthy. I actually really like it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like it because I got in this habit of drinking black coffee on an empty stomach, sometimes with a bit of cream, sometimes with a bit of butter, sometimes just straight up. Sounds like my recipe for success. And it's it's good, but it's like dirty fuel. You're like, oh, I'm fucking going here. But it's yeah, it's a little bit jittery. It's a it's a little bit Jason Statham, like what's it called, cranked.

SPEAKER_00

Gotta keep my heart rate above 180 beats a minute. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's a lot of internal stress. Yeah. And so I've been like, eat the muesli and then drink like drink the coffee while I'm eating it. And I'm like, oh, this is way better. But also, it's like a huge dose of fiber. And I ate a lot of vegetables and stuff outside of it, but I don't think like it's always good to have more fiber. For sure. I, you know, I think that, and most people probably aren't getting enough. And I know that if you're on the carnivore diet, you're probably fucking rolling in your grave right now. But um for everyone else is following. Yeah, you might be ripped and jacked, but you're dead. Yeah, it's been working really well. Oh, that's awesome. And I I think the thing is being able to mix it up, because this is a thing that I kind of throw this back to kind of some uh Paul Check trading I did back in the days. Check Check fucking still standing, still jacked, still doing great. Been singing this shit for like since day one, right? Has out outlived all the competitors. Yeah. ROP Charles Polyquin. Um, you know, like I think it's it's a challenge, but the idea of eating seasonally. This is like, you know, without getting too off track here, but I do I will just switch my eating up at a critical point. Like there'll be a point where I'm having eggs every day, every day, every day, every day. And then I'm like, nope, no eggs. Where I'm having milk and yogurt every day for months. I'm like, no, I'm just gonna park that for now. Just to be able to mix it up for my digestion. Yeah. Because you shouldn't be eating the same thing every fucking day. And we just fall into these habits, right? Like it's But I fucking love eggs, son. Yeah, I do love eggs too. And it's the choline is so good, it's so good for you. But um what I I guess what I'm getting to here is you're talking about uh winter months, mixing it up. You know, it is an excuse in a way to be able to do things differently.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The thing that shoot my testes just popped. Joey just became a man.

Fermented Foods And Pickle Power

SPEAKER_01

But um the the thing that I want to advocate for, because I so I I won't mention the person's name. Got contacted a little while ago about someone having really bad gut health and having that Gordon Ryan. No, no, no, no, no. Sonya was like big fan, Gordon. I've talked a lot of shit about you, man, but um now that you're consulting me about your diet, no. Um Gordon, sauerkraut okay. So this person said they had really bad hemorrhoids. And I was like, oh dang. I I I've been there back in the days, back back when I was uh like 20 years old and not eating any fiber, just eating protein, like just protein and just carbs, uh, but very minimal fiber. I I've been there. And he was like, Man, it's embarrassing. Like, I can't sit down, I like I get stomach pain, I have all these problems, and I it really doesn't allow me to do jujitsu well. And he's like, What do you recommend? Because the doctors tell me just like fiber and take this like liquid thing that's gonna clean me out, and I I don't know. And I said, Oh man, have you done a bunch of antibiotics? He said, Yeah, I have actually. I've had some skin infections, I had something else, blah, blah. I said, Look, you you need to restore your gut health, and honestly, the best way you can do it for you. Like JT Huben over here, please. Right, come on, come on. I I've I've fucked up enough to give a little bit of advice. So learn from my misadventures, misfortune. Um bit of fermented foods, just a little bit, not heaps, you know, whatever form it takes, you know. Like a lot of people, for me, I'm very lucky because sauerkraut coffee don't count. No, not probiotic. But um, but yeah, it doesn't matter if you, whether it be a kimchi or um, you know, even so I was speaking to a young man who just eats El Jana, uh like just that's all he eats. And I'm like, no, it's a terrible way to go. No, it's all right. Everybody's chocolate chicken chain here in Sydney. It's it's great. Um, but you're pumping garlic sauce every day, that's problematic. Go on. Yeah, but but that it often comes with like pickled. Yeah, always got pickles, yeah, right. And so just by virtue of adding that in, that does provide a bit of digestive balance. And I said to him, Do you eat the the the pickled bits and pieces? And do you eat like um hormis? And do you eat because this was like lots of good fiber in hormost? And so he was like, Oh yeah, yeah. So he didn't he wasn't conscious that he was doing something healthy, right? But by eating those things, it was kind of helping him stabilize just basically eating chicken and chips. Yeah, you know what I mean? So um back to our our friend who was having the digestive issues and the hemorrhoids. He um I said to him, Man, what is an easy way for you to get this in? Like, would you eat sauerkraut? He's like, I guess I could. Like I could have it with steak, or I could, you know, it's like, yeah, I could do that. I was like, do you mess with pickles? He's like, I haven't, but I could. You know, like I was like, having a sandwich, have some pickles on the side.

Within four weeks, he came back to me. He's like, Bro, I'm converted. He was like, he wrote me an essay about what a huge difference it made. Wow. Just by adding a little bit of sauerkraut, a little bit of pickles. Um, the probiotic foods, fermented foods, are fucking the easiest little um side thing you can have, and it'll change how you feel about life. And they're fucking delicious. They are delicious. Yeah. But if you haven't tried it, like that for me is something that really saves me because I am someone who tends to not eat enough fiber, not eat enough veggies, and bringing those kind of condiments and and side dishes in really saves me on the health level. Yeah, that's good. I remember um, I'm sure you probably encountered maybe some of this in Poland, but I remember uh a guy, uh Yuri Marmerstein, who's a you know, maybe and he was saying, I think I don't know where he'd been traveling, but maybe it was Ukraine or something. But he was saying, he's like, man, I found this follow this is deli near my place. And he he was buying jars of pickle juice. Oh, yeah. Just the juice. And he's like, you just buy it and drink it. Yeah, and he's like, fucking sick. Yeah, you know, and it's like, you know, again, you think about pickles, right? And and how we've kind of in the West we embrace them like they're something that's that are on hamburgers or sandwiches. Sure. Be like, yeah, pickles were a fucking like cornerstone of health for cultures that weren't able to grow fresh vegetables during the winter, right? Right. And and then and the brine that it's in is fucking great for you, electrolytes, all that potassium, all that shit, right? Like, and so yeah, they're pickles are fucking wonderful. Yeah, and I don't know, it's pretty hard not to like them. Well, I mean, I know some people, yeah, some people find them tough, they get grossed out by it, you know. Yeah, but even if you think about people having sushi, say, and you have pickled ginger, that counts. A little something. It's a little bit of something, yeah. And so whatever it might be, you know, uh whatever culture or whatever your food orientation, you get you're getting the uh options there.

Magnesium For Sleep And Recovery

SPEAKER_01

The last thing that I wanted to finish on, which is something I actually gave to a friend of mine, I'm gonna go shout out to Bradman Houston, who will soon be Australia's strongest man. Holy shit. He's he's he's number three currently. Okay. He was talking to me that his sleep is terrible. And he's a huge unit, like 15, 6, 160 kilos plus massive rig, 6'7, strong motherfucker. And I said, Do you take magnesium? He's like, No, should I? I was like, You fuck out of here. You're the biggest, strongest guy. I know. You don't take magnesium? He's like, oh well, oh, I'm I've heard it's good. How old is he? Oh, he's like 26 or whatever, 27. He's a big rig, right? Like he's he he is um a fairly aware young man in terms of how strong he is and what he does. I got him onto the magnesiums, bro. He didn't realize how depleted he was. He was he's like, man, I just had it like I'd have my creatine. I had it at dinner. He went and sat on the couch, gone. It knocked him out. Wow. Like, and then he like kind of came to on the couch, like, what year is it? Like, what dementia am I in? Yeah, it knocked him out. And he's like, bro, the magnesium has been putting me to sleep. And he'd been feeling way better as a result. Oh, wow. And it's just the smallest little change. And I think for a lot of us, if you're training jujitsu at night, getting the sleep, like the the down regulation, it's hard. Yeah, and I feel like magnesium's the little thing that I would add in there. Yeah, I I'd I'd second that, especially like a nighttime formula. Yeah, yeah, it's really good. But I think uh that's the list, folks. Improve your health, you'll be feeling better on the matter.
